Health officials have issued an exposure alert after a person infected with measles was present at San Francisco International Airport and two grocery stores in San Jose on June 11. The individual, an adult resident of Santa Clara County, was contagious when passing through the airport on Thursday morning and later visited Trader Joe’s and International Halal Market in San Jose between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. that same evening.
Authorities are advising anyone who was at these locations during the specified times to be aware of potential exposure. Measles is highly contagious, and symptoms typically emerge seven to 10 days after contact. Early signs include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a characteristic rash.
Health officials are urging unvaccinated individuals who may have been exposed to take precautions by quarantining, avoiding large gatherings, and closely monitoring for symptoms for up to three weeks.
The current situation comes amid a notable rise in measles cases across California. As of June 8, the state has confirmed 49 cases this year, nearly doubling the total from all of 2025 and marking the highest incidence since 2019, when 73 cases were documented. Public health authorities emphasize vaccination as the most effective method of preventing measles transmission and controlling outbreaks.
