Mirra Andreeva secured her place in the final of the China Open on Saturday by defeating Nikola Bartunkova 6-2, 6-2, marking her 50th match win of the season. The 19-year-old Russian, ranked fifth, will compete against either Elise Mertens or local favorite Zheng Qinwen for the tournament title on Sunday.

Andreeva’s victory ties her with Jessica Pegula for the most wins on tour this season, according to the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). Earlier this year, Andreeva also overcame Bartunkova, ranked 34th, during the U.S. Open's third round.

In men's play, Daniil Medvedev returned to competition with a win following his recent disqualification at the China Open. Medvedev defeated Jan-Lennard Struff 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the second round of the Shanghai Masters, an ATP 1000 event taking place this week. The Russian, seeded fifth, now holds a 10-2 career record against Struff.

Medvedev was disqualified from the China Open semifinals earlier this week after striking a spectator in the eye with a ball during a match against Novak Djokovic in Beijing. The incident led to the forfeiture of his $285,000 prize money for reaching the semifinals. Medvedev apologized, describing the event as accidental. This match in Shanghai marked his first since the disqualification. As one of the top 32 seeds in the 96-player field, Medvedev received a first-round bye.

Other notable results in Shanghai on Saturday included fourth-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime’s victory over Camilo Ugo Carabelli in a three-set match, 4-6, 7-6 (1), 7-5. Second-seeded Carlos Alcaraz, fresh off his Japan Open title last week, was scheduled to face Juan Manuel Cerundolo in a night match.

Meanwhile, world number one Jannik Sinner withdrew from the Shanghai Masters, citing a right knee injury and announcing he would be taking the remainder of 2026 off to recover.
