Megyn Kelly, a conservative commentator and podcaster, sharply criticized New York Governor Kathy Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James following James’s appointment as special prosecutor in the ongoing investigation into the alleged gang rape known as the “Cornell 7” case. The case centers on an incident reportedly occurring at the Chi Phi fraternity house in October 2024.
During her Friday show on Sirius XM, Kelly accused Hochul of manipulating the case by assigning James to take over the investigation, describing the attorney general as a “rabid, fire-breathing hack.” Kelly further asserted that James’s involvement prejudges the investigation, citing a Facebook post from James expressing sympathy for the alleged victim, identified as Jane Doe.
In the post, James referred to the alleged crimes as “horrific and unacceptable” and stated, “We stand with you,” signaling her public support for the accuser. Kelly argued this demonstrated that James had already aligned herself with one side before completing her inquiry, contending that a prosecutor’s duty is to pursue justice impartially rather than show favor.
Kelly also suggested that the appointment meant the case was effectively “fixed” against the accused, indicating skepticism about the fairness of the prosecutorial process. The case drew widespread attention following Jane Doe’s decision to file a civil lawsuit, sparking national debate.
At present, authorities continue to investigate the allegations. Hochul’s office appointed James to provide independent oversight of the case, aiming to ensure a thorough and transparent examination. The attorney general’s spokesperson has not commented directly on Kelly’s remarks. The investigation remains active, and further developments are anticipated.
