Two men were found dead inside a Long Beach residence following an early morning standoff with police on Saturday, authorities said. The incident unfolded in the 3700 block of Gardenia Avenue after officers responded to a report of gunshots fired at a nearby home.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with an adult male inside the residence who allegedly threatened to open fire on them. Law enforcement officers withdrew and called for backup, but the suspect reportedly fired at them, prompting at least one officer to return fire. No officers were injured during the exchange.

The suspect remained inside the home, prompting Long Beach police to summon the department’s SWAT team for assistance. After the specialized unit gained entry, officers discovered the bodies of two men, both bearing gunshot wounds to the upper body. Authorities have not released the identities of the deceased.

Police recovered several firearms and other evidence from the scene. Officials said the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths of both men are still under investigation.

The Long Beach Police Department confirmed that officers wore body cameras throughout the incident and that footage is currently being reviewed. The department indicated that the recordings would be made available to the public once the review is complete.
