Daniel Wilson, a 37-year-old man diagnosed with profound mental illness, has been handed an indefinite hospital order after a prolonged campaign of stalking James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli. The sentencing took place at Southwark Crown Court in London, where Wilson admitted to stalking behavior that caused serious alarm and distress over a period stretching from at least 2016 through early 2025.
Wilson’s harassment reportedly began with his developing an obsessive fixation on Broccoli, the 66-year-old film producer and daughter of Albert "Cubby" Broccoli, who originally helped bring the James Bond franchise to the screen. Their connection reportedly started through Broccoli’s son, who attended the same sixth form college as Wilson. Over time, Wilson’s fixation grew, manifesting in delusions and demands, including claims that Broccoli owed him money for a bronze bust of her father and alleged contributions to the Bond film script "Skyfall."
One significant escalation occurred in 2016, when Wilson broke into Broccoli’s London home, terrifying two female friends who were present and causing substantial damage. This incident resulted in a restraining order against Wilson, which he breached on multiple occasions. In February 2025, he left threatening voicemails repeatedly stating, “I’ve got murder on my mind,” and posted abusive social media content that included derogatory remarks and Broccoli’s contact information. These breaches were part of a broader pattern of sending hundreds of disturbing messages via email, text, WhatsApp, and voicemail over the years, ranging from strange and sexual to explicitly threatening in nature.
Wilson also pleaded guilty to affray and criminal damage after smashing seven vehicles and hospital windows with a hammer in late 2023, causing nearly £9,000 in damages. This violent outburst occurred shortly after his release from a psychiatric ward. During the court hearing, Wilson appeared via video link from HMP Wandsworth, at times shouting remarks before being muted by the judge.
In her victim impact statement, Broccoli described living in constant fear and anxiety due to Wilson’s relentless campaign. She said the situation forced her to sell her family home of 20 years and abandon her previous privacy, with only close friends now aware of her location. She also spoke about the emotional toll, saying she was always on edge and afraid to attend public events such as film premieres.
Judge Christopher Hehir acknowledged Wilson’s profound mental health issues and the significant distress caused to Broccoli. He imposed an indefinite Section 37 hospital order with a Section 41 restriction, along with a lifelong restraining order against Wilson. A deprivation order was also made for the hammer used in the criminal damage incidents.
Broccoli has overseen the Bond franchise since 1995 and recently sold control of it to Amazon, with no official announcements yet on the next actor to take on the role of 007. The court’s decision emphasizes the challenges of balancing mental health treatment with safeguarding public figures from persistent harassment.
