The Myanmar Edible Oil Dealers’ Association (MEODA) held a coordination meeting on May 29 to address safety protocols and structural assessments for oil storage depots. The event took place at MEODA’s meeting hall on the eighth floor of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) building on Min Ye Kyaw Swa Road in Yangon.

The meeting was presided over by MEODA Vice-Chair U Htay Moe and the leader of the Oil Depot Supervisory Committee, both of whom delivered opening remarks emphasizing the importance of safety and regulatory compliance. U Tin Moe Aung, Deputy Head of the Yangon Region Consumer Affairs Department, also participated, providing guidance on programs that oil depots are required to follow to meet consumer protection and safety standards.

Representatives from Myanmar Inspection and Testing Services Ltd, along with officials from various oil storage depots, contributed presentations and engaged in discussions about sector-specific concerns. A key focus of the meeting was on the need to rigorously compile and verify structural analysis data for oil depots, particularly those designed to endure earthquakes and natural disasters. The data should be reviewed and validated by qualified experts to ensure depot resilience.

Further safety measures highlighted included the calibration of processing weigh scales, systematic maintenance of closed-circuit television (CCTV) records, and implementation of safety protocols especially during the rainy season. Participants also addressed the necessity of verifying the condition of oil transport vehicles, inspecting depot boundary walls for potential water leakage, and ensuring alignment between physical inventory counts and book balances during inspections. Collaborative efforts with relevant organizations were underscored to strengthen overall operational safety and regulatory adherence.

The meeting aimed to bolster the integrity and safety of oil storage facilities amid challenges posed by environmental risks and regulatory requirements.
