Mercedes-Benz has announced plans to introduce 40 new vehicle models over the next three years, marking an ambitious expansion of its lineup. The German automaker aims to release at least one new model each month, covering a broad spectrum of segments and powertrains, including combustion engines, plug-in hybrids, and fully electric vehicles.
The push follows recent launches such as the CLA saloon, which was awarded the 2026 European Car of the Year, along with its estate variant, and a series of SUVs including the GLC, GLB, GLE, GLS, Maybach GLS, and the newly debuted GLA. The lineup also features high-performance models like the AMG GT 4-door Coupe and AMG CLA 45. Mercedes is targeting every vehicle category with premium options designed to appeal to a range of customers.
Among the debut models, the latest C-Class saloon has drawn attention for combining traditional appeal with advanced electric technology. The C400 4MATIC variant offers an electric driving range of up to 452 miles, leveraging rapid 800-volt charging capability that replenishes approximately 200 miles of range in just 10 minutes. A rear-wheel-drive version, priced more affordably, is expected soon with an estimated 500-mile range.
On the road, the electric C-Class delivers strong performance, featuring 489 horsepower and a variable all-wheel-drive system. Efficiency enhancements include automatic front axle uncoupling at motorway speeds and regenerative braking that minimizes the use of conventional friction brakes. Mercedes continues to emphasize driving refinement, offering optional air suspension and rear-wheel steering in a “Refinement Package,” though standard steel springs have been rated as sufficient by testers.
The cabin incorporates a large integrated computer system managing functions ranging from automated parking to video conferencing, supported by a high-quality Burmester sound system. Interior options include Vegan Society-certified upholstery at no extra cost. Practical considerations are addressed with a spacious trunk and an additional 100-litre front compartment, or “frunk,” made possible by the electric drivetrain layout.
Gasoline and diesel variants of the C-Class will remain in production alongside electrified versions, with ongoing updates expected to include new technologies and styling revisions. The C-Class estate is notable for maintaining a diesel plug-in hybrid option, a segment with relatively few competitors.
Looking ahead, Mercedes plans further model additions, such as a smaller G-Wagen, a refreshed A-Class, and an AMG GT SUV, underscoring the brand’s strategy to maintain a diverse and technologically advanced portfolio.
Closer to market dynamics, government incentives for electric vehicles have expanded, with 18 models priced under £37,000 now eligible for a maximum £3,750 grant, and 46 additional models qualifying for a £1,500 discount. Competitive pricing efforts are also evident among Chinese automakers matching these subsidies.
