A notebook containing handwritten lyrics by Freddie Mercury, the lead vocalist of Queen, sold for £277,000 at auction, marking the highest sale on the opening day of Propstore’s Music Live Auction. The lyrics originated from recording sessions for Mercury’s debut solo album, *Mr Bad Guy*.
The notebook was part of an extensive collection amassed by German record producer Reinhold Mack, who maintained a close friendship with Mercury and was involved in the production of Queen’s work. The sale reflects significant interest in music memorabilia associated with iconic artists.
Other notable items at the auction included Noel Gallagher’s autographed Takamine FP460SC acoustic guitar, which sold for £226,800, and a black and gold military-style jacket once owned by Michael Jackson, which fetched the same price.
Mark Hochman, a representative from Propstore, described Mercury’s lyric book as providing a rare and valuable insight into the artist’s creative process, highlighting its appeal to collectors and fans alike. The auction featured a range of music-related artifacts, underscoring the enduring market for items connected to prominent figures in the industry.
