A former Metropolitan Police officer who served alongside Sarah Everard’s killer, Wayne Couzens, has been convicted of rape and other sexual offences. Mark Tyrrell, 57, was found guilty on one count of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of perverting the course of justice following a trial at Southwark Crown Court. He was acquitted of one count of rape, four counts of assault by penetration, and eight counts of sexual assault.
During the proceedings, the court heard that Tyrrell raped the victim despite her repeated refusals, and subsequently asked her, “Do you realise that what I’ve just done, that was rape?” Tyrrell, who is from Meltham in West Yorkshire, is scheduled to be sentenced on December 16.
