Meta Platforms unveiled a new artificial intelligence model on Monday aimed at advancing its position in the competitive AI landscape. The model, named Muse Wonder, is designed to enhance the capabilities of Meta’s personal-assistant AI agent, Muse, which was introduced last month.

Since its launch, Muse has been downloaded nearly nine million times globally, but recent data indicates a slowdown in new downloads and a retention rate that trails behind OpenAI’s ChatGPT after two weeks, according to analytics firm Sensor Tower. Meta’s AI chief, Alexandr Wang, acknowledged that while some users have a clear understanding of the product’s benefits, others less familiar with AI technology may face challenges adopting the platform.

Muse Wonder is scheduled to be integrated into Muse for subscribers of both the $20 and $100 monthly tiers. Meta highlighted that the new model features improvements in memory retention, focus on complex goals, and expertise across health, finance, and legal sectors. Wang stated that Muse Wonder outperforms competing models, including OpenAI’s Astra and Anthropic’s Fable, across various benchmarks.

“We believe it is competitive with the very best AI models currently available,” Wang said, adding that Muse Wonder is optimized specifically for personal and professional agent functions and is intended to power the Muse experience effectively.

Meta’s stock price rose by 3% following the announcement. This development follows significant restructuring of Meta’s AI efforts in early 2025 after the less successful launch of its previous model, Llama 4. Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg brought Wang on board from Scale AI to lead the newly formed Meta Superintelligence Labs, which focuses on delivering “personal superintelligence” to Meta’s extensive user base. Zuckerberg has described Muse as a central element of the company’s AI strategy.

Meta faces growing competition in the AI personal assistant market. OpenAI recently launched Dots, an AI agent introduced at its developer conference, and Google offers a similar product called Gemini Spark. Additionally, startup Instinct has released an AI agent that has emerged as a prominent competitor to Muse.
