Paige Metayer scored her first National Women’s Soccer League goal since August 2024, helping the Washington Spirit secure a 1-0 victory over Bay FC at Audi Field on Sunday. The win ended the Spirit’s extended winless streak, improving their record to 12-6-4.

The decisive moment came in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time. Sofia Cantore delivered a one-touch pass to Trinity Rodman on a counterattack down the left flank. Rodman drove into the penalty area and took a shot that went off the crossbar, which then fell just short of crossing the goal line. Metayer, positioned on the right side following the play, was able to tap the rebound into the net. The score marked Metayer’s first goal in the league since August 25, 2024, preventing Rodman from adding what would have been her 11th goal of the season.

Goalkeeper Sandy MacIver was instrumental in preserving the clean sheet, making four saves throughout the match. The Spirit ended a run of three losses and one draw since late July with this victory. With 40 points from 22 games, Washington moved into second place in the NWSL standings, trailing league leaders Gotham FC by five points with eight matches remaining.

Bay FC, meanwhile, fell to 6-11-4 on the season and have lost five of their last seven games. They remain in 14th place in the league as they seek to reverse their recent struggles.
