Qatar’s Ministry of Interior (MoI) has announced a significant upgrade to its Metrash mobile application, expanding the platform’s digital services and improving user experience. Since its launch in 2011, Metrash has evolved into one of Qatar’s most widely used government service platforms, with over 2.8 million active users and more than 10 million services processed annually, according to Captain Ali Ahmed Syed, head of the MoI’s Internet and Electronic Services Section.

The latest version of the app features a redesigned interface and streamlined service procedures intended to facilitate faster and more convenient government transactions for residents, citizens, companies, and visitors. The application, which is accessible in six languages, now includes a broader range of electronic services that capitalize on recent advances in smart technology.

Key enhancements include a reorganization of services by type and frequency of use, allowing users to complete multiple related transactions under single icons. For example, traffic-related services have been consolidated to simplify navigation. Other newly categorized service areas cover security, personal files, delegations, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) citizens, visa inquiries, notifications, certificates, and payments. Among the newly introduced features is the ability for users to pay traffic violations on behalf of family members or friends.

Captain Syed highlighted that many procedures previously requiring physical visits to MoI service centers can now be completed electronically through Metrash or the MoI website. Users can monitor the progress of their applications online and track document deliveries through Qatar Post, including updates on printing status and estimated arrival times.

The upgraded app provides users access to a variety of personal information and official documents, including ID cards, driving licenses, vehicle registrations, military driving licenses, and company details. Enquiry services also allow users to check information regarding sponsored persons, travel movements, travel bans, police clearance certificates, and more.

Residence permit services have been reorganized into specific categories, enabling renewals, cancellations, approvals, fines payments, and application follow-ups. Captain Syed noted that the residence permit renewal process, one of the platform’s most frequently used services, can now be completed swiftly through a few simple steps in the app, with renewed permits delivered via Qatar Post. Additional services allow users to manage lost or damaged document applications, update personal photos, amend passport details, and submit name change requests.

Visa-related functions have also been centralized under dedicated categories that cover application submissions, procedural follow-ups, and medical checkups for recruitment from outside Qatar. The overall upgrade aims to enhance accessibility and efficiency, significantly reducing the need for in-person visits to government offices while improving transparency and user convenience.
