Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has announced plans to enhance security measures at metro rail stations by installing archway metal detectors and luggage scanners, officials confirmed. The initiative aims to improve passenger safety and prevent potential security incidents.

On October 19, DMTCL General Manager of Store and Procurement, Mohammad Asaduzzaman, issued an online tender solicitation seeking bids from eligible companies for the procurement of these security devices. The tender process is being conducted through the National e-Government Procurement (e-GP) Portal, which manages government procurement activities in Bangladesh.

The company emphasized that the new equipment will be installed across metro rail stations to screen passengers and their belongings as a proactive step to secure the transit environment. Interested firms were invited to submit electronic tenders via the e-GP Portal, with additional information and procedural guidance available both online and through the portal's help desk.

In addition to the security procurement, the same tender notice called for an annual maintenance contract covering several critical systems at the MRT Line-6 depot. These include the low-voltage electrical system, diesel generator sets, uninterruptible power supply units, ventilation systems, and general electrical maintenance under the depot’s electrical department.

This procurement reflects growing attention to security infrastructure within Dhaka’s expanding metro rail network as ridership increases. DMTCL, responsible for the operation and maintenance of the city’s metro system, is taking steps to ensure commuter safety keeps pace with infrastructural growth.
