The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago will hold a public hearing on July 16, 2026, to discuss its plan to issue up to $550 million in general obligation bonds. The hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. in the Board Room at the District’s Administrative Offices, located at 100 East Erie Street in Chicago.

The proposed bond issuance aims to finance a range of capital improvement projects across the district. These projects include replacing, remodeling, completing, altering, constructing, and expanding sewage treatment facilities, administrative buildings, water quality improvement initiatives, and flood control infrastructure. Specifically, funding will support the construction of pumping stations, tunnels, conduits, intercepting sewers, and outlet sewers, along with the necessary equipment such as air pollution control devices.

In addition to construction costs, the bond proceeds are intended to cover the acquisition of property—whether real, personal, or mixed—as well as expenses related to obtaining sites and rights-of-way needed for the projects. The funds will also be used for engineering services involved in the design and supervision of construction activities, along with other related and incidental costs.

The Board of Commissioners, led by President Kari K. Steele, will accept public input during the hearing as part of the process to consider the bond issuance. The notice of the hearing was issued by Jacqueline Torres, Clerk of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on June 22, 2026.
