CLEVELAND — The New York Mets completed a three-game sweep of the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday with a 13-6 victory, marking only their third series sweep of the season. The dominant offensive performance was fueled by a flurry of home runs and a reconfigured pitching staff following a significant trade deadline overhaul earlier this week.

The Mets averaged 8.3 runs per game during the series, hitting three homers in each contest. In Thursday’s game, Marcus Semien, Luis Torrens and Francisco Lindor all connected for home runs, contributing to an 18-hit attack. Torrens has now hit two home runs in three days, while Lindor extended his post-injury power surge with his eighth homer since returning from the injured list on June 24.

The team’s positive momentum came on the heels of a series of roster moves leading up to the August 1 trade deadline. The Mets traded away pitchers Huascar Brazobán, Brooks Raley, Luke Weaver, Clay Holmes, and Tyrone Taylor on Monday, with Freddy Peralta and A.J. Minter also dealt in the days prior. These departures cleared the way for newcomers such as left-handed reliever Jefry Yan, whose electric pitching and spirited celebrations have injected fresh energy into the clubhouse.

“You get to know everyone, and we’ve already jelled pretty well,” said infielder Carson Benge. “Losing some guys hurts, but there’s still plenty of depth in this organization.”

Reliever Nolan McLean, a 25-year-old right-hander, also praised the renewed team atmosphere. “It’s special to watch guys play with passion. It reminds you why you play the game, to have fun.”

Interim manager Andy Green acknowledged that the Mets struggled offensively prior to the overhaul, losing three of four games against the Miami Marlins with a stagnant lineup. “Before the trades, we didn’t swing the bats well,” Green said. “Now guys are feeding off each other, and watching new players make their debuts is exciting for everyone, regardless of how the season has gone so far.”

McLean started Thursday’s game, pitching five innings and allowing five earned runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts and three walks. After a shaky first inning in which the Mets fell behind 2-0, McLean settled down and retired 11 straight batters before surrendering a three-run homer to Guardian Nathaniel Lowe in the fifth.

The Mets took control with early scoring, as Semien and Torrens hit back-to-back home runs in the second inning to stake a 3-2 lead. Benge added an RBI triple in the third, followed by a sacrifice fly from Semien to extend the lead. Jared Young also contributed an RBI single in the fifth inning.

Trailing 6-5 after Lowe’s homer, the Mets responded with a three-run shot from Lindor in the seventh. The offense surged again in the eighth inning, adding four runs with contributions from Alvarez, Young, Torrens and Bo Bichette, who singled in the final run.

“That Lindor home run was huge for us after Cleveland scored three runs in the fifth,” Green said. “Answering back and getting those runs helped us put the game away.”

The sweep marked a significant turnaround for a Mets team seeking to build momentum in the second half of the season.
