ATLANTA — The New York Mets held on to secure a 10-9 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Sunday at Truist Park, overcoming a late surge from the National League East leaders in a closely contested game. The win improved the Mets’ record to 37-53 and kept their hopes alive to split the series with the Braves with a win Monday night.

The Mets established an early lead, taking advantage of a defensive miscue in the first inning. Francisco Lindor reached base on an error, and although Juan Soto was thrown out attempting to stretch a single into a double, Bo Bichette followed with a single that brought Lindor home, giving New York a 1-0 advantage. However, Atlanta responded immediately, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning off Mets starter Nolan McLean.

New York quickly chipped away at the deficit in the second. A.J. Ewing opened the inning with a home run off Braves left-hander Martin Perez, cutting the gap to one run. Luis Torrens followed with a walk, and Brett Baty added a double to put two runners in scoring position for Lindor.

The contest featured strong offensive performances from both clubs and showcased the Mets’ resilience in the face of late pressure. Despite holding a seven-run lead entering the ninth inning and having two rested right-handed relievers—Huascar Brazobán and Devin Williams—on the mound, the Mets allowed six unearned runs, narrowing the Braves’ deficit to just one run.

With runners on the corners and two outs, Williams managed to limit further damage by preventing runners from scoring, ultimately preserving the Mets’ slim margin of victory. The game underscored ongoing challenges for New York as they continue to seek consistency, even while competing against one of the top teams in their division.

The Mets will look to capitalize on Sunday’s momentum when they face the Braves again Monday night, with an opportunity to secure a series split on the road.
