The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy (MEWRE) has signed a KD 74.703 million contract with Khaled Al-Kharafi and Brochen Construction Contracting Company to establish and maintain the Shuwaikh Water Distribution Complex. The agreement follows approval from the Central Bank of Public Tenders (CAPT), which vetted the company as the lowest bidder meeting the project's technical and legal requirements.
The project is part of MEWRE’s broader strategy to enhance the country's water infrastructure amid expanding industrial and agricultural development. The Shuwaikh complex is designed to bolster water security by improving storage and distribution capabilities within the network.
Upon completion, the facility will increase storage capacity to 66 million gallons per day and boost freshwater pumping rates to 54.5 million gallons daily. Additionally, it will enhance the ability to pump low salinity water up to 23.5 million gallons per day. These upgrades aim to improve the reliability and efficiency of water supply operations, addressing growing demand in Kuwait’s industrial and farming sectors.
This initiative is considered a strategic infrastructure project, vital to sustaining continuous water delivery and supporting the efficiency of the national water network as consumption expands.
