Authorities are searching for a suspect believed to be hiding in Mexico in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred in Brooklyn last month. Misal Cruz is wanted in the slaying of Maria Santos Flores, 36, who was found with a severe neck wound in her Bay Ridge apartment.
The New York Police Department, working alongside federal agencies, has extended its investigation across the U.S.-Mexico border. Mexican law enforcement officials have joined the effort to locate Cruz, who remains at large.
Santos Flores was discovered at her residence on 85th Street near 4th Avenue in Bay Ridge by her 17-year-old son and her sister, Angelica Flores. According to family members, Santos Flores had just returned home from her job as a bartender at Huatulco Sports Bar in Sunset Park when the attack occurred.
A grieving Angelica Flores recounted the moment she found her sister. “I came to visit her and found her like this,” she said, visibly upset. Family members gathered outside the home, consoling one another after the shocking loss.
Maria Santos Flores’s husband, Antonio Hernandez, indicated that authorities suspect she was followed home from work on the night she was killed. Investigators continue to pursue leads in hopes of apprehending Cruz and bringing clarity to the circumstances surrounding the deadly incident.
