Michael Carrick has indicated an openness to Marcus Rashford returning to Manchester United, signaling a potential reunion between the club and the 28-year-old winger. Carrick, who is currently managing United, remains in regular communication with Rashford, who is with the England squad at the ongoing World Cup.

Rashford, a Manchester United academy product, last featured for the club in December 2024 during a Europa League match against Viktoria Plzen. Despite his absence from first-team action since then, he remains under contract with United until June 2028. Carrick has reportedly consulted senior players within the squad about the possibility of Rashford’s return and received positive feedback.

The forward’s relationship with United became strained under former manager Ruben Amorim, resulting in loan moves to Aston Villa and subsequently Barcelona. Rashford played a key role in Barcelona’s defense of their LaLiga title last season and was considered a candidate for a permanent transfer to the Spanish club.

However, Barcelona’s recent £70 million signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle has altered their squad plans, leading the club to forgo the £26 million option fee to secure Rashford’s services on a full-time basis. This development has revived speculation about Rashford’s possible comeback to Old Trafford.

Over nine years at Manchester United, Rashford has made 287 appearances and scored 87 goals, establishing himself as an important figure in the club’s recent history. Whether this latest indication from Carrick will culminate in a return remains subject to further negotiations, but the prospect offers a notable storyline for both Rashford and Manchester United in the coming transfer window.
