Micro Health Laboratories (MHL) Qatar recently hosted the Micro Health Symposium 2026, titled “Genomics in Clinical Practice: From Basics to Precision Medicine,” at the Itqan Clinical Simulation & Innovation Center, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) in Doha. The event brought together a diverse group of doctors, researchers, scientists, healthcare professionals, and policymakers to discuss advances in genomics, precision medicine, and diagnostic technologies.
The symposium aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030, emphasizing the development of a knowledge-based society, research innovation, and an enhanced healthcare ecosystem. Central topics included genetics, genomic testing, pharmacogenomics, oncology, personalized healthcare, and the application of genomic science to clinical decision-making.
The event was inaugurated by Prof Dr Salha Bujassoum Al-Bader, Senior Consultant Medical Oncologist and Clinical Lead for Precision Oncology & Women’s Cancer, who highlighted the growing significance of integrating genomics and precision medicine into everyday clinical practice to enable more individualized approaches to prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
Dr Noushad C.K., Global CEO and Managing Director of Micro Health Laboratories, underscored the expanding role of genomics, artificial intelligence, and precision diagnostics in shaping healthcare’s future. He emphasized the importance of translating genomic research into clinical solutions while upholding patient privacy, data protection, and adherence to Qatar’s regulatory standards.
The scientific program featured a range of experts from Karkinos Healthcare and other institutions. Dr Sridhar Sivasubbu discussed foundational concepts of genetics and genomics, explaining how sequencing technologies are transforming diagnostics. Dr Vinod Scaria elaborated on patient selection for testing and the interpretation of genetic reports, emphasizing the integration of genomic data with clinical information, family history, and population-specific factors. Dr Bani Jolly presented on pharmacogenomics and its role in personalized prescribing, while Dr Mariam Fida addressed applications of precision medicine in oncology, inherited diseases, and reproductive medicine, highlighting the necessity of genetic counseling.
Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) was a key focus area, noted for its comprehensive analysis of the entire genome. Experts discussed its utility in diagnosing rare and inherited conditions, cancer genomics, and research. They also stressed critical considerations such as clinical interpretation, informed consent, genetic counseling, data security, and responsible management of genomic data. MHL is actively expanding access to genetic testing services, including WGS with pre- and post-test counseling, within Qatar.
The symposium included an Expert Panel Discussion moderated by Ms Surabhi Ganga, Vice President – Scientific, Innovation & Regulatory Affairs, where panelists covered patient selection, genomic testing strategies, report interpretation, pharmacogenomics, precision oncology, and the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration. The discussion was followed by an interactive Q&A session, allowing healthcare professionals to engage closely with the experts.
In addition to the symposium, MHL announced the launch of the latest edition of the Micro Health Bulletin, introduced by Dr Sanjay Doiphode, former Senior Consultant Microbiologist at HMC. The bulletin aims to promote scientific dialogue, continuing professional education, research innovation, and knowledge sharing in laboratory medicine, diagnostics, and clinical practice. It serves as a platform to highlight emerging diagnostic technologies and advancements in precision medicine, fostering closer connections between laboratory science and clinical application across the healthcare community.
The event concluded with closing remarks and a networking dinner, marking a significant step toward advancing genomics and precision medicine integration in Qatar’s healthcare landscape.
