Winsford United, leaders in the Midland League, experienced their second defeat in three matches on Saturday as they fell 2-0 to Abbey Hulton United at Abbey Hulton. The turning point came when Winsford defender Ashton Brogan was sent off approximately ten minutes before halftime. Abbey Hulton capitalized on their numerical advantage in the second half, with Tim Grice opening the scoring in the 62nd minute after Matt Ward’s shot was saved but fell to him. Shortly after, Jack Gumbley doubled the lead by converting a cross from Aaron Bott.
Elsewhere, nearest challengers Runcorn Town also suffered a setback, losing 1-0 at home to Cheadle Town. The only goal was scored in the first half by Tom Jones. Runcorn Town’s chances of an equalizer were further hampered when Keane Barugh missed a penalty in the second half.
Sutton United climbed to fourth place following a convincing 4-0 victory against Stockport Georgians. The Birmingham-based side secured a two-goal lead through efforts from Aidan Mee and Red Simmons before Joe Gildea and Jayden Hunter sealed the win, with Hunter converting a penalty.
Brocton continued their strong run with a 5-1 win over bottom club Tividale. Reg Smith scored twice for Brocton, while goals also came from Morgan Payne, Jake Thomas, and Christian Blanchette. Isaiah Beaumont netted the lone goal for Tividale.
