The man, in his 20s, was detained after illegal material was discovered on his mobile phone at the facility, which currently houses approximately 540 male asylum seekers.

The National Crime Agency (NCA) confirmed the arrest but declined to provide further details, stating it would be inappropriate to comment at this stage. A local source indicated that officers had recently spoken to the individual regarding his bail conditions, though specifics have not been disclosed. It has been clarified that the images found are not connected to any children in the Crowborough area.

The incident has drawn attention and concern from the local community. Crowborough Deputy Mayor Peter Bucklitsch expressed frustration over the handling of the case by the Home Office, accusing it of offering insufficient information and a lack of meaningful engagement with local representatives. “Our residents have every right to expect that when a serious incident occurs at the camp, their elected representatives will receive sufficient information to reassure the public and respond to legitimate concerns,” he stated.
