Ten individuals, including two Albanian nationals, were arrested following the arrival of a migrant vessel at Mylor Harbour, a small marina near Falmouth in Cornwall, early on Sunday morning. Witnesses reported seeing several people disembark from the yacht before getting into a van and departing the area prior to police intervention.

Devon and Cornwall Police were alerted shortly before 3 a.m. and subsequently detained the two Albanians on suspicion of immigration offences. The remaining eight arrests related to the incident were reportedly made in a different police jurisdiction. In addition, an individual believed to be under 18 years old has been referred to social services, according to the Home Office.

This incident comes amid a series of recent unmonitored migrant arrivals on British shores. Last week, two small boats carrying migrants were reported landing undetected—one east of Folkestone with at least seven people aboard, and another at Samphire Hoe between Dover and Folkestone involving up to 30 individuals. These events have prompted increased scrutiny over border security and enforcement capabilities.

In response, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has ordered an urgent review of the Border Security Command to assess current procedures and address potential gaps in interception efforts. The Home Office characterized the Mylor Harbour incident as an isolated and rare event, emphasizing that Immigration Enforcement is leading the ongoing investigation.

Some union representatives have expressed concern about the government’s approach to border security. Lucy Moreton of the ISU border, immigration and customs union criticized what she described as a tendency within the Home Office to avoid proactively identifying breaches, stating that this hinders effective management of immigration challenges. Meanwhile, a Home Office spokesperson noted officers responded promptly to the incident but declined to provide further details due to the continuing investigation.

Mylor Harbour is known primarily for recreational yachting and sailing schools, located approximately five miles north of Falmouth. The latest events have brought the small community into focus as officials examine how migrants were able to arrive undetected and temporarily evade authorities before arrests were made. The investigation is ongoing as officials seek to determine the full circumstances surrounding the vessel’s arrival and movement on land.
