Asylum seekers housed in taxpayer-funded hotels are receiving free condoms through the National Health Service (NHS), health officials have confirmed. The provision of contraception is part of the NHS’s standard healthcare services, which are available to all residents, including migrants.

The issue has drawn criticism from political figures concerned about public spending. Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp expressed frustration, highlighting that taxpayers are funding contraceptives for asylum seekers while many British residents face difficulties accessing certain healthcare services, such as dental appointments. He also pointed out that more than 93,000 individuals are currently being accommodated at public expense, noting a 12% rise in the number of people placed into dispersal accommodation under the Labour government.

The NHS defended its policy, stating that contraception is offered free of charge to everyone, including asylum seekers, as part of its commitment to public health and accessible healthcare for all individuals within the country.

The debate reflects ongoing tensions surrounding immigration and public resource allocation, with government officials and opposition politicians differing on the scope and scale of support provided to asylum seekers.
