Mikey Lewis has expressed his determination to make a significant impact as England prepares to face Papua New Guinea in their quest for a spot in the Rugby League World Cup semifinals. The 25-year-old Hull KR half-back played a key role in England's recent 82-0 victory over France, coming off the bench to score two tries that bolstered the team’s chances in the tournament.
Lewis acknowledged that his domestic season was troubled by disciplinary challenges but said he has since refocused and is eager to contribute positively. Reflecting on his performance against France, he noted that England coach Brian McDermott encouraged him to play naturally and create opportunities on the field. “I had one job. I was told to run the ball and cause havoc — that was the ideal thing. It was just, ‘Be you’ — and I felt that was me,” Lewis said.
England’s upcoming match against Papua New Guinea is seen as a crucial test as they pursue an unexpected semifinal berth in the World Cup. Lewis’s return to form and proactive style are expected to be vital components of England’s attacking strategy as the tournament progresses.
