A delegation from Sri Lanka's Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) recently completed a study tour in Russia aimed at enhancing understanding of defence security and the strategic environment. The group was led by Major General K.W. Jayaveera, Commandant of the DSCSC, and included three directing staff members along with twelve course participants.

During the visit to Moscow, the delegation engaged with several key institutions, including the Ministry of Defence and the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. They also toured the Main Temple of the Armed Forces and the “Patriotic Park” Museum Complex. The itinerary included a visit to the International Mine Action Centre of the Military Engineering Academy and the “Boiling Point” Moscow Public Headquarters, a centre focusing on biotechnology, commercial space technologies, and drone systems.

In St. Petersburg, the group visited prominent military educational and research institutions such as the Airspace Academy named after A.F. Mozhayskiy and the Naval Academy’s Military Scientific and Research Centre, named after Fleet Admiral N.G. Kuznetsov. The delegation also toured the Central Naval Museum named after Peter the Great, the historic warship “Aurora,” the Naval Polytechnic Institute, and the Naval Academy’s Research Centre. Several local historical sites were included in the program.

The study tour was intended to provide participating officers with direct exposure to Russia’s defence capabilities and strategic thinking, while also fostering stronger professional and institutional relationships between the defence sectors of Sri Lanka and Russia. Coordination for the visit was handled by the defence section of the Sri Lankan embassy in Moscow.
