A former Army officer and millionaire banker was re-arrested on suspicion of possessing cocaine, police said, following an earlier investigation into an alleged assault in Putney, southwest London. The 44-year-old suspect, who is reportedly descended from European royalty and holds a senior position at a major global bank, was detained at his £1.4 million residence in West London on Monday. During a search, authorities discovered both cocaine and cannabis at the property. He was subsequently released on bail.
The man had previously been questioned in connection with a 2017 incident on Putney Bridge, when a 33-year-old woman was pushed into the path of a double-decker bus while out jogging. The victim narrowly escaped serious injury, thanks in part to the quick actions of the bus driver, Oliver Salbris, who managed to avoid striking her.
The initial inquiry focused on allegations of attempted grievous bodily harm (GBH) related to this incident, which occurred on May 5, 2017. The circumstances surrounding the assault earned the assailant the moniker the "Putney Pusher" in media reports.
Authorities have not disclosed whether the recent drug possession arrest is directly connected to the ongoing investigation into the 2017 assault. The suspect remains on bail as inquiries continue. No further details about the case have been released, and police declined to provide additional comment.
