Midwest Poultry Services L.P. has initiated a recall of nearly 1.6 million dozen cage-free white and brown eggs produced in Texas due to possible contamination with Salmonella enteritidis. The recall was announced on July 22 following the company’s internal environmental monitoring and root cause analysis, which identified the risk before any reported illnesses.

The affected eggs bear identifying codes P-1950 or 0840962, accompanied by a Julian date range between 157 and 184, printed on the sides of the cartons. These eggs were distributed primarily through Kroger stores located in Texas and Louisiana, as well as Brookshire Grocery outlets across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Mississippi. Shipments also reached various food service providers and retailers in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana.

Midwest Poultry Services reported that it had ceased distribution of fresh eggs from its Texas farms as of the recall date. To date, no illnesses have been linked to the potentially contaminated eggs.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled eggs are advised to avoid consumption and return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund. The company has set up a customer service line to address inquiries, available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

Salmonella infection symptoms typically appear between six hours and six days after exposure and commonly include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. While healthy individuals often recover within four to seven days without medical intervention, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warns that vulnerable populations—such as young children, adults over 65, and individuals with compromised immune systems—may experience more severe illness.

The CDC advises seeking medical attention for symptoms such as high fever exceeding 102 degrees Fahrenheit, diarrhea persisting beyond three days without improvement, bloody diarrhea, persistent vomiting preventing fluid intake, or signs of dehydration like reduced urination, dry mouth and throat, or dizziness upon standing.
