KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait’s Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, met on Monday with Dr. Khaled Al-Khalifa, Advisor to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, to discuss enhancing cooperation in humanitarian and relief efforts.

The meeting centered on the UNHCR’s role in facilitating coordination between governments, relevant authorities, and private sector entities in the Gulf region to support refugees and populations affected by crises worldwide. According to a ministry statement, Dr. Al-Huwailah expressed readiness to deepen collaboration with the UN agency within existing legal frameworks and through official channels.

Both officials highlighted the importance of recent legislation enacted in Kuwait aimed at regulating charitable and humanitarian activities. This legal framework is designed to promote good governance and transparency, establish clear institutional oversight of charitable work, and safeguard donors’ contributions. The law also seeks to ensure that donations are properly allocated for their intended purposes and to prevent the misuse or exploitation of charitable initiatives.

The discussions reflect ongoing efforts by Kuwait and the UNHCR to strengthen partnerships in addressing humanitarian challenges in the region and beyond.
