Qatar’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mohammed bin Ali al-Mannai, conducted a series of bilateral meetings on July 8 at the Global Dialogue on AI Governance summit in Geneva. The discussions centered on enhancing international cooperation in digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI), and the modernization of government services.
During the summit, al-Mannai met with several counterparts, including Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Eng. Abdullah bin Amer al-Swaha; Germany’s Minister for Digital Transformation and Government Modernisation, Dr. Karsten Wildberger; and Lebanon’s Minister of State for Technology and Artificial Intelligence, Dr. Kamal Shehadeh. These engagements focused on sharing expertise related to digital technologies and innovation, with an emphasis on developing government services through AI and other digital tools.
Further bilateral talks involved Estonia’s Minister of Justice and Digital Affairs, Liisa-Ly Pakosta; Ireland’s Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation, Niamh Smyth; and Singapore’s Minister for Digital Development and Information, Josephine Teo. The participants reviewed best practices in digital government initiatives and explored avenues for collaboration in the digital economy, digital infrastructure development, and advancing AI technologies.
Al-Mannai also met with key international figures responsible for digital governance. Discussions with the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Doreen Bogdan-Martin, addressed cooperation to support global efforts in governing digital technologies. In addition, al-Mannai engaged with Amandeep Singh Gill, the United Nations Special Envoy for Digital and Emerging Technologies, to discuss further collaboration on the international stage.
The meetings were attended by Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva, Dr. Hend Abdulrahman al-Muftah, who was present to support Qatar’s participation in the summit.
Separately, Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Luc Frieden held a meeting with HE Mohammed bin Ali al-Mannai on the sidelines of the Global Dialogue on AI Governance. Dr. Hend Abdulrahman al-Muftah also joined this discussion, underscoring Qatar’s ongoing diplomatic engagement in advancing digital and AI governance frameworks during the Geneva summit.
