Kuwait’s Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Dr. Sabeeh Al-Mukhaizeem, emphasized the importance of advancing the country’s energy sector through a comprehensive and coordinated approach during the third meeting of the Supreme Energy Committee held on Tuesday. The meeting focused on reviewing the progress of technical teams and assessing a consultancy study related to Kuwait’s 2035 Energy Sector Transformation Plan.

Dr. Al-Mukhaizeem highlighted that the development of Kuwait’s energy infrastructure is a national priority that demands clear vision and collaboration across institutions. He pointed out that energy planning must align with demographic growth, urban development, and economic expansion to ensure the country meets both current and future energy needs.

At the meeting, the committee examined progress reports from technical teams responsible for implementing different aspects of the transformation plan. These teams presented their work frameworks, accomplishments, and challenges, along with receiving guidance from the committee to bolster their efforts. The committee also reviewed findings from a consultancy study conducted by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences. This study outlined long-term targets for 2035 and 2060, along with a portfolio of proposed projects, relevant policies, and a governance structure designed to oversee implementation and monitor performance metrics.

Dr. Al-Mukhaizeem stressed the necessity of prioritizing implementation phases, clearly assigning roles and responsibilities, and linking each stage to measurable performance indicators. Such measures, he said, are crucial for tracking progress, overcoming obstacles, and enabling timely decision-making. He further noted that integrating expertise from government bodies, scientific institutions, and technical specialists would support the development of practical, data-driven solutions, thereby enhancing the efficiency of both planning and execution.

The minister underlined the long-term impact of current decisions on Kuwait’s energy landscape and called for sustained teamwork to establish a more efficient, resilient, and sustainable energy system. According to Dr. Al-Mukhaizeem, success would be gauged by the ability to convert strategic plans into tangible projects that improve the reliability of energy supplies, enhance resource efficiency, diversify the energy mix, and expand renewable energy capacities in alignment with Kuwait’s development goals.

The Supreme Energy Committee’s ongoing oversight aims to ensure Kuwait’s energy transformation efforts support the nation’s overarching priorities and create benefits for future generations.
