Kuwait’s Ministry of Health has honored Professor Moussa Khorshid, a specialist in general, bariatric, and laparoscopic surgery, following his receipt of the Pioneer Award from the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO). The recognition was presented during the IFSO World Congress held recently in Toronto, Canada, where Professor Khorshid was acknowledged alongside four surgeons from the United States for his contributions to the development of bariatric and metabolic surgery.

Sheikh Dr. Salman Al-Sabah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, praised the achievement, emphasizing that the international recognition of Kuwaiti medical professionals demonstrates the strength and expertise present within Kuwait’s healthcare and academic sectors. The ministry noted that this award adds to Professor Khorshid’s previous international honors, which include honorary fellowships from the American College of Surgeons in 2021 and the American Surgical Association in 2024.

Professor Khorshid expressed pride in receiving the Pioneer Award, highlighting it as both an incentive and a responsibility to continue advancing medical practice and research. He also acknowledged the Ministry of Health’s ongoing support in fostering national talent and promoting scientific excellence within Kuwait’s medical community.

The ministry underscored that such distinctions enhance Kuwait’s reputation in global medical forums and reflect the country’s commitment to contributing to advancements in surgical science and practice.
