Kuwait’s Ministry of Justice took part in the 13th session of the Conference of State Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, held this week at the UN headquarters in Vienna. The event, which runs through October 23, convenes every two years to review how member states are implementing the convention and to discuss ongoing measures for combating organized crime on a global scale.

The current session continues the review process initiated by a resolution passed during the conference’s 10th session, focusing on evaluating member states’ adherence and progress. Among the key agenda items are several draft resolutions, notably the proposal to establish a drafting committee tasked with preparing an additional protocol specifically addressing crimes impacting the environment. This reflects growing international concern about environmental offenses linked to transnational criminal activities.

Leading Kuwait’s delegation is Senior Counsellor Bader Al-Mis’ad, Director of the Kuwait Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies. He is accompanied by Senior Legal Researcher Yaqoub Al-Ejail and Reem Al-Ansari, a translator from the Ministry of Justice’s International Relations Department. The delegation’s participation underscores Kuwait’s engagement with global efforts to enhance legal frameworks against organized crime, particularly in emerging areas such as environmental protection.
