The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in Qatar recently convened a national meeting focused on advancing eye health across the country. The gathering included representatives from a range of organizations and institutions involved in eye care, aiming to strengthen collaboration and coordination in the implementation of national priorities related to eye health.
During the meeting, participants reviewed the current state of eye health services in Qatar, highlighting key achievements and ongoing initiatives while identifying challenges and opportunities for improving service delivery. A central topic of discussion was fostering greater integration among stakeholders to support early detection and prevention of eye diseases, ultimately enhancing the quality of care provided to the population.
Sheikh Dr Mohamed bin Hamad al-Thani, director of the MoPH’s Non-Communicable Diseases Prevention Programmes Department, presented an overview of the national action plan for eye health and blindness prevention. He outlined the program’s future objectives, emphasizing the importance of continuing to develop and elevate the standard of eye health services.
The event underscored the ministry’s commitment to advancing eye health through innovation and technological adoption, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve service quality and health outcomes. Officials also used the forum as an opportunity to exchange expertise, assess progress made to date, and set priorities that will shape the next phase of eye care efforts in the country.
This meeting reflects Qatar’s broader strategy to promote preventive care and early intervention in eye health, reinforcing the role of coordinated efforts among public health entities, medical institutions, and other stakeholders to achieve optimal health results.
