Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu secured her third Commonwealth Games gold medal by winning the women’s 48 kg event at the Glasgow 2026 Games. Chanu’s victory marked India’s first gold medal of the competition.
In the final, Chanu established a Commonwealth Games record during the snatch portion by lifting 85 kg. She began the clean and jerk segment with an unsuccessful attempt at 82 kg but succeeded on her second try. She then improved her mark with an 85 kg lift, setting new Commonwealth and Games records.
Chanu capped her performance with a successful clean and jerk of 105 kg, which secured her the top podium position. This achievement completes a hat-trick of Commonwealth gold medals for Chanu, who previously won at the 2018 and 2022 Games.
Her win contributes to India’s medal tally at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, highlighting her continued dominance in the sport on the international stage.
