Country music artist Miranda Lambert has embraced a disco-inspired sound with the release of her 11th studio album, titled "Crisco," which became available on Friday. The collection marks a notable shift from her usual repertoire of fiery and heartbreak-themed songs, featuring upbeat, boogie-forward tracks underscored by sweeping strings and dancefloor influences. Lambert described the album as reflecting a joyful phase in her life, highlighting the creative freedom she felt to experiment with new musical styles.

The title track sets the tone with lyrics that fuse country and disco elements, emphasizing the playful and vibrant approach Lambert took. Despite this new direction, she maintains a connection to her country roots, identifying herself as a fan of traditional artists like Merle Haggard and expressing a desire to blend familiar sounds with fresh energy.

The album’s release follows a period of significant achievements for Lambert. She earned seven nominations from the Country Music Association Awards and delivered a disco-themed performance at the Academy of Country Music Awards that encouraged attendees to dance. Additionally, Lambert made history as a co-writer of "Choosin’ Texas," a crossover hit performed by Ella Langley. The song, which explores the emotions of falling out of love, has been certified six times platinum, named Billboard’s official Song of the Summer for 2026, and stands as the longest-running number one song on the U.S. charts. It also propelled Langley to become the only woman to simultaneously top the Billboard Hot 100, Hot Country Songs, and Country Airplay charts.

Reflecting on the unexpected success of "Choosin’ Texas," Lambert noted that it originated from a casual songwriting session and speculated its broad appeal stems from its fresh yet familiar sound, making it instantly singable for listeners. Lambert co-wrote the track with Langley, Luke Dick, and Joybeth Taylor, and she also served as co-producer on Langley’s album “Dandelion,” marking her first time producing for another artist. Langley, in turn, is featured on "Crisco" on the opening track "Snakeskin Boots."

Lambert praised Langley’s artistry and determination, seeing in her the qualities of her younger self. The two share a collaborative synergy that has extended beyond songwriting and production.

In addition to her creative ventures, Lambert resolved previous tensions with fellow country artist Kacey Musgraves. The two collaborated on the song "Horses and Divorces," featured on Musgraves’ recent album "Middle of Nowhere." Lambert attributed past difficulties to the pressures of establishing oneself in the competitive music industry and acknowledged that their renewed partnership reflects a mutual understanding developed over time.

The origins of the "Crisco" album trace back to Lambert’s collaboration with Chris Stapleton on “A Song To Sing,” their rendition of “Islands in the Stream,” which garnered two Grammy Award nominations. The album’s blend of country authenticity and disco flair signals a new chapter in Lambert’s evolving musical career.
