Kuwaiti authorities have referred cases of alleged misappropriation of public funds at the Public Authority for Disability Affairs to the Public Prosecution for further investigation and potential legal action. The referral, announced on August 29 by Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah, Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, follows an internal investigation by a committee assigned to oversee public expenditures.

According to the committee's findings, payments were made for maintenance work and quantities that were either not fully completed or not performed at all. The estimated financial damage under review amounts to approximately 1.211 million Kuwaiti Dinars (about 3.95 million U.S. dollars). This represents significant concerns over the management and disbursement of public funds within the authority.

Minister Al-Huwailah emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting public resources, describing this responsibility as non-negotiable. She indicated that this was the second referral to the prosecution within a week, underscoring a broader effort to address irregularities in public spending. The minister also affirmed that all suspected violations, especially those with potential criminal intent, will be subject to legal proceedings.
