A cat that went missing at Dubai International Airport was reunited with its owner after 10 days, bringing relief to both. Avishka Kaumadi, the pet’s owner, said her cat Chuutu disappeared on October 11 while at Terminal 1 of the airport.
Kaumadi described the emotional reunion shortly after retrieving Chuutu, who is now back with her in Sri Lanka. “When I went up to him and spoke to him, he answered me,” she said, expressing overwhelming relief. She shared photos showing Chuutu sitting contentedly on her lap in the car while on the way to a veterinary check-up.
The cat appeared to have lost weight and was visibly unwell due to not eating during the time he was missing. He also suffered from dirt and grime after being stranded in the baggage area. Kaumadi noted that Chuutu now seems much happier and recognized her immediately.
Throughout the search, Kaumadi received support from airport personnel and various animal rescue groups who helped in locating the missing pet. In a social media post, she acknowledged the collective effort, writing that “You had the entire Dubai looking out for you.”
Kaumadi’s experience underscores the challenges that can arise when pets become separated from their owners during travel, and highlights the importance of cooperation between travelers, airport staff, and animal welfare organizations in resolving such cases.
