Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy is in stable condition after being shot early Sunday morning at an outdoor concert in Laurel, Mississippi, according to officials from the University of Missouri football program. Hardy, an All-American running back, was treated surgically for the gunshot wound he sustained during the incident.
Missouri’s football program confirmed in a statement on Monday that Hardy underwent surgery on the same day as the shooting. Police reports indicate that Hardy was shot in the upper leg. The event took place at a bike club hosting an outdoor concert, where authorities described the scene as chaotic.
Laurel police Sgt. Macon Davis told local media that at least two people were injured in the “melee” and characterized the incident as violent. Three persons of interest linked to the shooting were taken into custody as investigations continue. Sgt. Davis noted that it was fortunate more people were not hurt during the disturbance.
Further details about the incident, including the motive and identities of those involved, have yet to be released. The University of Missouri and law enforcement agencies are cooperating in the ongoing inquiry.
