BELMONT, Mich. — Miyu Yamashita secured a victory at the Meijer LPGA Classic on Sunday after prevailing in a playoff against Lottie Woad at Blythefield Country Club. Yamashita closed regulation at 17-under-par 271, following an impressive final round 64 that included a birdie on the par-5 18th hole. Woad had a chance to win in regulation but missed a critical three-foot par putt on the last hole, which forced the playoff.

Entering the final round five strokes behind leader Jing Yan and four shots adrift of Woad, the 24-year-old Japanese golfer overcame the deficit with an 8-under performance. In the playoff, both competitors reached the green in two shots on the 18th hole. Yamashita executed a delicate flop shot to within three feet, while Woad’s pitch traveled past the hole to around 10 feet. Woad was unable to convert the comebacker, giving Yamashita the win on her second attempt at the hole.

This victory marks Yamashita’s third on the LPGA Tour, adding to her 13 wins on the Japan LPGA circuit. Last season, she captured the Maybank Championship, claimed the Women’s British Open major, and earned the LPGA rookie of the year honors. Yamashita, standing 4-foot-11, expressed satisfaction with her performance, highlighting a strong feeling throughout the round.

Woad, a 22-year-old English player, carded a 68 on Sunday, including a notable bunker shot birdie on the 17th. Despite the missed putt on the 18th, she acknowledged the putt felt solid before it lipped out on the high side.

Other contenders included Wei-Ling Hsu and Yan Liu, both finishing with rounds of 67 to tie for third place at 15 under. Minji Kang and Cassie Porter followed closely at 14 under, while Yan dropped to 13 under after a 73, tying for seventh.

Attention now turns to the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, which is set to begin Thursday at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota.
