Mohamed Salah remains determined to succeed at Trabzonspor despite the club’s recent heavy setbacks in European competition. The former Liverpool player’s team suffered a decisive 5-0 aggregate loss to Ferencvaros in the Europa League play-off round, resulting in Trabzonspor’s relegation to the UEFA Conference League.
The second leg, played on Thursday, ended in a 4-0 defeat at home, compounding the disappointment for the Turkish side. During the match, Salah was substituted shortly after the 60th minute, and Trabzonspor finished the game with only nine players following the red cards shown to Ruslan Malinovskyi and Sidny Lopes Cabral.
Following the defeat, Trabzonspor’s head coach Fatih Tekke tendered his resignation, citing the heavy loss, but the club’s management decided to reject it and keep him in charge. Tekke expressed his anguish over the result, stating that he has been unable to sleep and asking for forgiveness.
Salah addressed the loss in a social media post, emphasizing his commitment to the club and his resilience in the face of setbacks. “Bad nights are part of football and I have learned to turn them into motivation and into trophies,” he wrote on Instagram. “Trabzonspor is my club, and I am part of this project, body and soul. Last night will not change that.”
At 34, Salah is viewed as a key figure in Trabzonspor’s efforts to navigate challenges on and off the pitch as they prepare for competition in the Conference League. The club and its supporters will be looking for a swift recovery following this disappointing European campaign.
