The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) has dismissed claims that a military aircraft’s flight data was responsible for the recent disruption to the country’s air traffic control system. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, resulted in the cancellation of more than 2,000 flights across UK airports.

An initial report by a financial news outlet cited four unnamed sources suggesting that a flight plan submitted by a military jet triggered a technical fault within National Air Traffic Services (Nats), the organization responsible for managing UK airspace. This purportedly caused a malfunction in the broader air traffic control system, leading to significant delays and cancellations.

In response, the MoD stated there is no indication of any error linked to military operations. A spokesperson emphasized that, given an ongoing investigation by Nats—expected to conclude in the coming week—it would be inappropriate to provide further details at this stage.

Nats also reaffirmed that it is actively investigating the root cause of the system failure. A spokesperson noted that it would be premature to speculate before the completion of a comprehensive technical review.
