The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has declined calls for a formal investigation into reported UFO sightings in Scotland, asserting that none of the incidents have posed a military threat. The decision follows renewed demands from local paranormal researchers following a recent release of U.S. government records on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena.

Scots author and UFO researcher Malcolm Robinson had urged the government to declassify files relating to unusual aerial objects observed in the Stirlingshire and Falkirk areas, regions known for a surge in UFO activity three decades ago. Alongside Bonnybridge councillor Billy Buchanan, Robinson has conducted extensive reviews, cross-referencing data from aviation, military, and police sources in an effort to exclude conventional explanations for the sightings.

In an official response to their inquiry, the MoD stated that no sighting reported to the department has indicated any threat to national security or military operations. The letter added that MoD resources are better allocated to defense-related priorities rather than investigating these phenomena.

Robinson expressed disappointment in the MoD’s stance and indicated plans to present the matter to the new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham. “It often feels as though no amount of public pressure will shake the tree of power,” he said.

The MoD’s position contrasts with growing public interest triggered by the U.S. government’s recent disclosure of previously classified information about unexplained aerial encounters. However, Britain’s defense authorities maintain that, despite local reports and investigations, the phenomena do not warrant the deployment of official personnel or the opening of comprehensive inquiries.
