Authorities in Tuolumne County, California, are investigating the drowning death of a 3-year-old girl at Don Pedro Reservoir as a potential homicide. The child, identified as Lailah Rosillo, died on July 18 at Fleming Meadows Lagoon, a popular area within the reservoir, prompting an active inquiry into the circumstances surrounding her death.

Tuolumne County Sheriff David Vasquez addressed the incident during a board meeting on Tuesday, confirming that the case is being treated as a homicide. "That is an active investigation right now," Vasquez said, noting that authorities are still collecting information from witnesses and those present at the scene. He emphasized that gathering comprehensive details is standard procedure in cases involving the death of a child.

The sheriff’s office had responded to a 911 call on the evening of July 18 reporting a missing child potentially drowned at the lagoon. Upon arrival, emergency responders found bystanders administering CPR to Rosillo. Despite these efforts, the young girl could not be revived and was pronounced dead before she could be airlifted to a hospital for advanced medical treatment.

Rosillo's family and friends have expressed profound grief following the tragedy. A family friend, Yolanda Muro, described the girl as a bright and joyful child whose smile brought happiness to those around her. Rosillo leaves behind three siblings—an older brother, an older sister, and a baby brother—who are mourning her loss.

Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that might aid the investigation. Law enforcement officials are particularly seeking photographs or videos from July 18 that could show Rosillo on a raft or boat with other children at the reservoir. They also wish to identify witnesses who might have observed her prior to being pulled from the water, as well as images of a large raft believed to be involved.
