A 33-year-old man from Modi’in Illit was formally charged on Tuesday in the Central District Court with committing an indecent act against a minor. The indictment accuses Meir Hammami of sexually offending a girl approximately 12 years old after offering her a ride and driving to a nearby forest.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred when Hammami encountered the girl as she was crossing a pedestrian crossing near the entrance to Modi’in Illit. The two did not previously know each other, and the indictment states that Hammami offered her a ride. After the girl entered the vehicle, Hammami reportedly began asking questions about her and her family.
Prosecutors allege that Hammami then deviated from the intended route and drove to a forested area close by. Once there, in broad daylight, he is said to have stopped the car, exposed himself, and demanded that the girl perform a sexual act. The girl reportedly began crying and pleaded that she was late. Following this, Hammami allegedly returned her home.
The indictment formally charges Hammami with committing an indecent act against a minor. The prosecution has requested that the court order Hammami’s detention until the criminal proceedings are concluded.
