The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) has opened submissions for the 2026-27 Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Environment and Wildlife Award, inviting a broad range of participants from across the Gulf region. Eligible entrants include government and semi-government bodies, academic and research institutions, private sector companies, civil society organizations, and individuals.

The award aims to recognize significant achievements in biodiversity conservation and sustainability within the GCC member states. According to the ministry, the competition focuses on three primary categories: innovation and technology in biodiversity management, community involvement in biodiversity protection, and projects dedicated to ecosystem restoration and rehabilitation. Entrants are encouraged to select a primary category for their initiatives while also noting any secondary relevant areas.

Submissions must showcase completed projects or initiatives that have delivered tangible outcomes aligned with the award’s objectives. The deadline for entry is March 2027.

The ministry will conduct an initial review of submissions before forwarding them through official channels to the GCC General Secretariat, which is responsible for the comprehensive evaluation and final judging process. Winners are slated to be announced and recognized during the 2027 meeting of GCC ministers responsible for environmental affairs, where the awards ceremony will be held.

This initiative reflects ongoing efforts to promote environmental responsibility and sustainable development across the GCC, highlighting innovative approaches and community engagement in protecting the region’s diverse ecosystems.
