The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) reported completing 2,259 requests across 32 radiation protection services during the first eight months of 2026, marking significant improvements in processing efficiency and regulatory oversight. The ministry’s data, released Sunday, highlights gains achieved since the introduction of a new electronic system in April 2025.
Between January and August 2026, the average processing time for radiation protection requests decreased by nearly 27% compared to the same period following the system’s launch. Notably, licence processing for the import and export of radioactive materials improved by 36.1%, while handling of radiation-emitting equipment requests saw a 19.1% reduction in processing times.
The completed requests included 724 renewals of personal licenses related to radiation work and 607 new license applications. These encompassed issuing, renewing, and amending licenses for radioactive materials, radiation-emitting equipment, vehicles, and associated activities.
At border crossings, MECC implemented streamlined procedures and reviewed harmonized code lists in coordination with relevant authorities, resulting in a 50.2% drop in the number of customs declarations requiring review by the radiation protection department. These changes facilitated faster clearance times and enhanced operational efficiency.
Average times to process customs declarations decreased by around 41%, from nearly 13 hours to approximately 7 hours and 40 minutes. Initial response times to such declarations were reduced sharply by almost 70%, falling from just over 5 hours to under 1 hour and 35 minutes. For express courier shipments, inspection times after assignment to the responsible officer dropped by 20%, decreasing from 20.5 minutes to 16.4 minutes when comparing the first eight months of 2025 and 2026.
MECC stated its commitment to continuing the automation of radiation protection services and enhancing electronic integration with coordinating authorities. The ministry emphasized its focus on maintaining radiation safety and security standards while seeking to further accelerate and streamline processing operations.
