Qatar’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) has launched a specialized training course on licensing and inspecting industrial radiography practices, in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The program is part of Qatar’s 2026–2029 technical cooperation projects with the IAEA, under the initiative titled “Strengthening the Regulatory Infrastructure for Nuclear and Radiation Safety and Security.”
The training aims to enhance the regulatory framework governing industrial radiography by improving the skills of professionals responsible for licensing and inspection. Participants are being trained to assess license applications rigorously and ensure that operations comply with established radiation safety requirements. The course also focuses on developing their capacity to conduct thorough inspections efficiently while adhering to internationally recognized standards.
An important aspect of the program involves familiarizing attendees with best practices in radiation protection, as well as protocols for preparedness and response to potential radiological incidents. This holistic approach seeks to bolster the overall safety measures at facilities that employ industrial radiography technologies.
Through close collaboration with IAEA experts, participants have the opportunity to exchange technical knowledge and expertise. This partnership aims to harmonize regulatory approaches and improve both administrative and technical procedures related to radiation safety. Ultimately, the initiative seeks to reinforce the effective implementation of radiation protection standards, contributing to enhanced safety and security within Qatar’s industrial radiography sector.
