Kuwait’s Ministry of Health has announced a reduction in the prices of 517 medicines and pharmaceutical products as part of an ongoing effort to make healthcare more affordable and sustainable. The decision, issued Thursday by Health Minister Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi, aims to ensure access to effective and high-quality treatments while maintaining the lowest medicine prices across the Gulf region.
This latest price adjustment is the most recent in a series of measures taken over the past three years, which have collectively lowered costs for a total of 2,760 medicines and pharmaceutical items. The discounts cover a broad range of therapeutic categories, including cancer treatments, new cholesterol-lowering drugs, epilepsy and allergy medications, pain relievers, antibiotics, antifungal agents, and smoking cessation products.
The Ministry of Health described the price reductions as the result of thorough technical evaluations, periodic price reviews, and comparisons with prices in reference markets as well as Gulf and international standards. This approach, officials said, is designed to maintain competitive pricing while safeguarding the quality, efficacy, and safety of the pharmaceutical products available to patients.
Dr. Al-Awadhi and ministry officials reiterated their commitment to continuously refining medicine pricing policies and enhancing regulatory frameworks to ensure adherence to approved prices. These steps aim to promote market stability, improve access to necessary treatments, and alleviate the financial burden on both patients and the broader healthcare system.
