Kuwait’s Ministry of Health is seeking to enhance its medical expertise through expanded collaboration with the US-based Mayo Clinic, following a meeting held on August 5 in Kuwait City. Health Minister Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi met with a delegation from the Mayo Clinic to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in medical education, professional development, and overall healthcare services.
A statement released by the Health Ministry emphasized its commitment to developing national competencies and improving healthcare quality by fostering partnerships with leading international medical institutions. During the meeting, both sides explored opportunities to enable Kuwaiti medical staff to participate in the Mayo Clinic’s educational lecture series, which features presentations by international healthcare experts. This initiative is aimed at facilitating knowledge exchange and continuous professional development for physicians in Kuwait.
The Ministry described the partnership as part of broader efforts to convert international collaborations into tangible programs that support capacity-building within the country’s healthcare sector. These programs are expected to focus on specialized education and training opportunities tailored to enhance the skills and expertise of local medical professionals.
Representatives from both entities expressed a positive outlook on the cooperation. The Mayo Clinic delegation commended the Ministry’s efforts to advance Kuwait’s healthcare system and strengthen its workforce. The discussions included key Health Ministry officials such as Undersecretary Sheikh Dr. Salman Khalifa Al-Sabah and Assistant Undersecretary for External Health Services Dr. Hisham Kalandar. From the Mayo Clinic side, the delegation was led by Executive Director for the Americas Jose Padilla and Middle East Medical Director Dr. Omar Ghanem.
